Default Intermittent issues communicating with RCS x10 TXB16 stat

I have 3 RCS x10 TXB16 stats installed in 3 homes. I'm using the stats and HAL2000 for an Energy Management prototype project in conjunction with my local utility. HAL2000 is at the center of the project and is collecting temperate status from each stat every 15 minutes (one is outside temp). This works great except the system will go though periods of hours where HAL doesn't log any data (status is unavailable). I do not believe this is an x10 issue as signal strength is solid and I can regain communication by cycling HAL. It will begin logging again on its own but the gaps in data are too large. Has anyone experience this issue? It seems like there may be a bug in the HAL code specific to RCS that some how auto corrects after some time, or of course a restart. (memory leak?)

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

What X-10 interface are you using?
Some CM11 style units have been known to lock up for no apparent reason.

Smarthome Powerline USB

I'll check next time I'm in the \"bad\" state but I'm pretty sure all other devices (x10) are functioning.

Hello yall i woke up this morning to find the house at 64 degrees cold as anything i have a RCS TXB16 x10 power line communication thermostat connected to HAL that most of the time will not communicate with it cause of the house being too big for x10 signals to be reliable however i have never had any problems other than not reading till today and i am having a hard time having the heat to work it will work for a few minutes when you raise the temp and than will go offline without reaching the temp set. I am having a hard time understanding whose fault it is, the hvac unit or the rcs part?? since now is completely of the wall as far as accepting x10 signals (the two way x10 interface i took that off the wall just in case it was getting wired signals from somewhere). anyone knows of any issues and workarounds with this
thank you
Denis

Are you running some new devices that are causing MORE intereference on the powerline? Like an electric heater? Did you get a new TV or Computer in the house recently?

well yes and no as far as heaters or tv no, there are no new devices, but there are two large Christmas trees full of lights that will remain up till jan 14 and they came up at the beginning of December right when the symptoms of stray x10 signals started. so they must have caused this. now i found a rs232 control board on ebay for my rcs thermostat at a good deal and now i can connect my hvac to hal over serial connection do you thing that's a good switch its a txb15 i believe??
thank you

Yep, I switched to the RS232 RCS stat a while back. Works 100% now.

Hey Jim I understand you are using serial to Ethernet connection am i right and so am I?? what adapter are you using??? mine is a ELK IP232 and HW Virtual Serial Port and since that does not give you many settings i also downloaded the trial version of Eltima Serial to Ethernet connector. But i am having a hard time getting HAL to communicate with RCS TX15RS232 I see there is Communication from the serial port through port monitoring i can see that they are sending and receiving bytes but it seems like the received data comes after HAL says could not communicate with the thermostat. I should also say that the RCS wall display unit is saying CF for communication failure and it was working fine with TXB16 X10 that i was using before and i thought they r the same for all models i just have to change the settings am i right?? or the WDU go by each model as well??
thank you for your help
