Default Ideas?

I have a quad individual I've programmed a HALPRO system for. If anybody has any ideas, could you please let me know? I want life to be as easy and independent as possible for this individual.

I had the same situation with a army guy that ended up in the hospital where I work, I think if you search the forums you might find some posts. He was transferred to another hospital before I was able to get him hooked up with HAL

Hi there,

I haven't got any ideas, but I was wondering if you ever got a solution
as I would like to do the same thing. Cheers!

Hey guys,

HAL can be a very powerful Assistive Technology for quad individuals. A lot depends upon their individual abilities, challenges and environment but a couple of things do come to mind.

First Firgelli Automation sales a TV Lift kit that could be used to raise or lower items to make them more accessible. Other companies also make lift kits with more features such as swivel and tilts but not sure how much of that is automated and could be controlled by HAL. Firgelli's website is at:

http://www.firgelliauto.com

Also there are residential door and window controls that HAL maybe able to help control. a company named Terryco is one manufacturer, you may find others that may be better suited for use with HAL. You can find some information or at least some ideas at:

http://www.weopendoors4u.com/

You may find "non-conventional" uses for items may provide a good solution. For example, an electronic locking device controlled by HAL may be used to hold or steady something while the individual is using it.

Just be sure to stay well within the manufacturer's specification for height, weight and voltage tolerances for safety and to prevent any damages and consult professionals if in doubt.

Though my situation is much different, I started by simply evaluating my day to day tasks to identify the things that were difficult for me. Once I had done this some of the solutions became much more obvious to me. Now my home is not only more accessible but safer as well for me.

Regards,
Stan

Stan,

For the most part we have found that most of the devices such as those found at http://www.firgelliauto.com can be controlled by HAL. The same goes for automated doors and controls such as the ones found at the TerryCo site. They even give some examples of control via X10 http://www.weopendoors4u.com/tech.html

Thank you for your post.

Regards,

Tim

Any idea as to liability when installing something for this purpose? I know it can be a real help, but it is a computer- and it is Windows....
We are starting to design a system for a friend who is a C5 quad. He thought it was mostly a music player and lighting control, but he got the idea that he could control his environment quite well with an automation sytem. I have MainLobby running on tablet PC's with touchscreens as well as the HAL for voice control and schedules, etc.

Ideas?
